Senior Automotive Powertrain Controls and Calibration Engineer

Description

Development and application of Powertrain control systems at engine and vehicle levels for the Transonic Combustion process. This advanced, high fuel efficiency, combustion process utilizes gasoline in a high compression ratio engine and requires an Automotive Powertrain Controls and Calibration Engineer Systems Engineer for the development of engine control systems. Specific duties include:

  • Translate Powertrain plan requirements into control system designs to achieve program targets
  • Develop control strategies using MATLAB/Simulink for SIL and HIL environments
  • Design and conduct testing of automotive Powertrain on dynamometer
  • Troubleshoot Powertrain system functional and diagnostic issues; determine / validate corrective actions and preventative measures
  • Perform post-processing routines and analysis of test data using MATLAB and Excel
  • Document controls designs and calibrations performance to verify system meets functional requirements

This position reports to the Vice President Research & Development.

Requirements

The candidate should have a general understanding of automotive SI and /or CI engine systems and subsystems. A BSEE/BSME or related field of study. One to Five years experience in Powertrain Calibration or Controls Systems design. Fluent in MATLAB/Simulink for controls design. Experience with automotive circuits, sensors and actuators.

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience with ETAS calibration tools
  • Experience in fuel injection technologies
  • Automotive communication protocols

Mechanic/ Dynamometer Technician

Description

Teardown, repair/modify, and rebuild diesel and gasoline engines. Troubleshoot engines and engine controls. Set up and troubleshoot instrumentation hook-ups (sensors, transducers, wiring, etc) on engine test stands. Assist with performing engine testing.

Applicants must also have experience in fabrication of fixtures and parts. This includes using hand tools and machine tools (lathe, drill press, bench grinder) to make parts, and fabricating fixtures and parts using TIG welding and gas brazing.

This is an opportunity for a resourceful multitalented technician.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in automotive assembling and/or repairing vehicle engines/transmissions
  • Experience with installation and troubleshooting of test instrumentation
  • Attention to detail
  • Savvy about working on running engines
  • A portfolio of relevant practical projects from prior work and/or hobbies
  • A strong interest in making new things work
  • Work with engine dynamometers and in-vehicle systems integration
  • 2 year degree from a technical institute is a plus
  • Auto frame and body experience is a plus
  • Good written and oral communication skills

3-D Modeler Drafter - SolidWorks

Description

Works closely with the Design Engineer, prepares 3-D models, sketches, layouts and drawings of all assemblies and engineering documents in accordance with standard drafting procedures.

  • Create CAD models from sketches or verbal descriptions
  • Prepare documents for design specifications, test plans, final drawing revisions, parts list, bills of material, diagrams, charts, schematics, layouts, assemblies
  • Understand and communicate sequence of assembly and installation practices.
  • Engineering Change Request, Engineering Change Notices, and New Drawing Releases.
  • Ensures new or modified drawings are properly archived.

Requirements

Education: AA in Mechanical Engineering

  • Proficient in Solid Works (preferred), mechanical CADD, CATIA, or Pro-E
  • Three to five years of industrial experience including complex electromechanical components, preferably in automotive or aerospace applications.
  • Training in drafting and computer literate with 3D Solid Model Programs required
  • Familiarity with GD&T is a plus

Develops and implements new designs, or improves existing designs, for automotive fuel injection systems. This is an opportunity for inventing fundamentally new approaches with minimal design constraints. Requires creative solutions for high pressure fast actuation automotive fuel injectors and efficient high pressure systems. Requires a solid engineering background with proven ability for generating new ideas and approaches and following through to turn those ideas into functional devices. Diesel fuel injector design experience a significant advantage.

Requirements

Education: BS or MS Mechanical Engineering

  • Experience in hydraulics or electrohydraulics for automotive applications
  • Solid engineering background

Senior Injector Design Engineer

Description

Perform the design and testing of fuel injectors for the Transonic Combustion process. This advanced, high fuel efficiency, combustion process utilizes gasoline in a high compression ratio engine and requires a fuel injector capable of high-pressure direct injection of supercritical gasoline. The Injector Design Engineer will take part in the design of the fuel injector, the validation testing of said injector, and its application within the fuel system. The responsibilities will include the development of valve actuation and valve guidance methods, material selection and injector packaging. Activities will also include the development of validation test methods, customer contact, and support of engine testing and data acquisition. Interaction with combustion development, fuel system design and system electronics is required in order to integrate all requirements towards full functionality and performance of the target applications.

Requirements

A Bachelors or Masters in mechanical or electrical engineering is required. Extensive experience in the design of precision actuators needed. Detailed understanding of injector dynamics, spray preparation, and fluid dynamics required. Diesel fuel injector design experience and thermal modeling experience will be considered a plus. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of more than 5 years in fuel injector development and application with diesel CI or direct injection gasoline SI combustion systems. This position requires a self-starter that is highly motivated and is innovative.

Precision Assembler

Job Purpose

The Precision Assembler is responsible for assembly, testing and documentation for prototype builds of advanced automotive components and precision mechanical devices such as fuel injectors, pumps, and other hydraulic or pneumatic products.  This position is responsible for producing in-process components and assemblies, and finished products, in conformance with drawings, workmanship standards, and TSC policies and procedures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and comprehend complex component and assembly drawings, and test procedures.
  • Build precision parts per established procedures, drawings, and other documentation.
  • Record build information accurately during assembly of components, as required.
  • Contribute ideas on improving the assembly of the components being worked on.
  • Perform simple mechanical inspections of components, or in-process measurements using basic measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height stands, comparator inspection, etc . . ..
  • Perform soldering of basic electronic components and wiring.
  • Utilize good communications skills to interface with engineering, machine shop, product testing, and other manufacturing personnel.
  • Support manufacturing process reviews
  • Takes ownership of specific work areas to maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area.

Education and/or Experience

5 or more years experience working in assembly of high precision mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components and assemblies.

Required

  • High School Diploma.
  • Hydraulics/Pneumatics component assembly experience.
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret standard drawings and blueprints.
  • Able to perform basic math, addition, subtraction, averages, and plot chart data.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communications skills.

Preferred

  • Ability to perform basic machining, fabrication, welding, brazing, metal finishing, de-burring, etc .
