Senior Automotive Controls and Calibration Engineer

Description:

Lead the development and application of engine controls and calibration for the Transonic Combustion process. This advanced, high fuel efficiency, combustion process utilizes gasoline in a high compression ratio engine and requires a Senior Automotive Controls and Calibration Engineer to lead the development of model based control strategies to support the application of this novel combustion system. Applications will include single and multi-cylinder engines as well as vehicle development to support research, development and application of the technology. The responsibilities will include the development of model based control strategies and engine calibration protocols as well as development of the calibration to support application of the combustion process for in-house and customer programs. Activities will also include design of experiments, engine testing, data acquisition and analysis of multiple development programs. Interaction with combustion development, injector design and system electronics is required in order to integrate all requirements towards full functionality and performance of the target applications. Additionally the role will include the co-ordination of joint development projects with major OEMs on a world-wide basis.

Requirements:

A Masters or PhD in mechanical or electrical engineering is required with emphasis on automotive ICE engine control and calibration. Extensive hands-on development of model based controls using Matlab-Simulink and ETAS tool-sets. Experimental work in engine dynamometer test labs and vehicle applications. Detailed understanding of engine combustion characteristics, exhaust emissions and control, extreme climate testing and calibration, and drivability is also required. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of more than 5 years in control system development and application with diesel CI and direct injection gasoline SI combustion systems. This position requires a self-starter that is highly motivated and is innovative.
